Steady Rolling Man - Venue Spotlight

Pub, Bar, Taproom, Bottle Shop, Tavern, Alehouse, Boozer, Saloon, Watering Hole. Whatever you call them, wherever you drink, they’re the backbone of the industry and Steady Rolling Man Cask is pouring in some of the best of them this week.

We spoke to a few of the beautiful venues you can find Steady Cask…

Small Bar, Bristol

How long have you been open?
11 years

Tell us about your history and what you do

Founded by Bruce Gray and Jack Granger in 2013 shortly before establishing Left Handed Giant, who brewed their first beers in the pub's side room (now referred to as "The Brew"), Small Bar is not so named, as you might imagine, for it's diminutive size - we are actually a fairly large venue with 250 capacity across 3 floors - but for it's bloody-minded dedication to independently brewed beer. To this very day we have no tied lines and no permanent pours - just 24 taps of constantly rotating beers from local, national and international producers as well as an Aladdin's Cave of cellared bottles. The only rule is whatever we serve, it must be made by an independent company. The only exceptions to this rule are Rodenbach and Monster Munch, of course, both of which I assume are owned by some clandestine global evil but can't be sure. We host regular tap takeovers & Meet The Brewer events to showcase and build relationships with our favourite breweries, participate in many launch events, supply the good people of Bristol with the finest fried chicken currently known to science and generally cherish and champion the best beers on the market. We do so with pride in our hearts and a smiles on our faces. Most of the time.

Whitelocks Ale House, Leeds

How long have you been open?
Whitelock's Ale House first opened in 1715, so its now been 310 years! We opened its sister bar next door, The Turk's Head, in 2016.

Tell us about your history and what you do
During its time owned by the Whitelock's family, it was reportedly the first building in Leeds to have electric lighting and an electric clock. In the 1900s clientele included stage and film stars, and we were even visited by some royalty. Once the current operators took over the pub in 2012, it had been owned by various people and we have worked hard to restore the pub to its rightful place in the heart of Leeds. We have 11 cask lines, and champion the best independent breweries from around the country. We serve fresh home cooked excellent pub grub through the week, and we do a banging Sunday roast. You can also catch us doing a monthly dinner club hosted in Turk's Head!

One In The Wood, London

How long have you been open?

In May of this year 2025, we will have been open for eleven years, with the last two years being under new ownership

Tell us about your history and what you do

One Inn The Wood is a real ale house, specialising in gravity pour cask ales. Originally the emphasis was to focus on local breweries, but under new ownership we have expanded our range to include not just local but the best breweries from all over the UK, including breweries from further afield such as Spain, Germany and the USA. We have added two keg lines which are about to be expanded to four lines which has massively opened up the possibilities for different styles and tastes. Recently we have started to hold guided tasting events for our patrons so they can have first hand experiences from the breweries themselves which also gives us a great platform to show all the varied styles of beers across both Cask and Keg
