The future is Bright

Bright Pale Ales, IPAs and DIPAs offer all the hop saturation and gorgeous fruit forward hop aromas of our house juicy style with a pared back malt and dialled down yeast ester presence… allowing for epic levels of deliciousness and drinkability.

Gareth and Theo fell in love with this style through hop selection trips to the Pacific Northwest of America finding freshly hopped bright pales and IPAs which married crisp and clean bases with intensely hop forward drinking experiences.

What is a Bright IPA? We asked Jim Solberg, CEO of Indie Hops

“Here’s my local perspective on Bright Pale..

Just a few years ago, brewers in the northwest often told us they “couldn’t give away a Pale Ale”.  If a beer wasn’t called IPA in some fashion, they said, it was going nowhere.

As hop suppliers and beer lovers, we’ve always argued that lower ABV beer formats like Pilsners and Pale Ales are a fantastic way to reach people who love beer and hops but find the IPA world a bit heavy.  There clearly was a stigma around the style callout of Pale Ale though, so when northwest breweries started coming out with “Bright Pales” that were crisp and clean, with refreshing hop profiles of tropical and citrus fruit with mild pine, we were ecstatic.  It felt like a bit of a breakthrough to reach people who are a little turned off by a 7.0% ABV IPA, but see a light bodied, full flavoured 5.0% ABV Bright Pale as made for them.”

It’s a style we are really keen to develop further this year so watch this space!

Our first of the year is a Bright DIPA brewed with wonderful BEAK ....

Danny from BEAK on deck

"Over the last year at Beak, we’ve been exploring the concept of Bright IPAs, focusing on beers inspired by contemporary Pacific Coast beer culture. Unlike traditional Westies, these releases have focused less on bitterness and more on crisp, nuanced malt profiles with modern, ultra-vivid hop character, often incorporating super pungent Southern Hemisphere varieties and extracts. This collab with our good mates at DEYA is our first ever Double Bright IPA and features some of the most expressive Nelson and Motueka we’ve ever encountered, so we couldn’t be more excited about its release." ~ Dany, BEAK

Driving That Train x BEAK (8%)

A crisp, clean, bright DIPA. Nelson, Motueka and Citra in all formats lending punchy layers of lupulin goodness and a clean dry finish. Noteworthy use of liquid hop products Citra Hyperboost and Motueka and Nelson HopKief. Fermented with California Ale Yeast for a paired back yeast ester presence. This brings a more neutral flavour profile (so we can focus on the hops), less juice, and a brighter appearance. A gorgeous medley of tropical fruit, orange and lime with a zippy, clean finish. Serious refreshment coming to you in DIPA form!

Design

The label design was as collaborative as the beer. Our artists, Thom (DEYA) and Jay (BEAK) worked together to create this beautiful label.

Some words from Thom...

"Jay and I got our head’s together with the aim to create something which was playful, light and organic. Pulling from inspirations of the graphic poster scene of a rebellious 60’s Cuba along with the high key colours and DIY sentiments of Wes Wilson’s iconic posters we landed at this. Everything hand drawn, torn paper textures from the desk and scanned in to bring together DEYA and BEAK in a lovely moment of sharing beer."
